Adjectification - the act of using an otherwise neutral adjective to insult. See Muslim and Arab.
The other day, one of the wingnuts at a John McCain rally took the mike to tell McCain why she didn't trust Barack Obama. "I don't trust him," she said ... "He's an Arab."
McCain has received praise for immediately taking the mike and declaring that Barack Obama is a decent American and we all need to treat each other with respect.
Clap. Clap. Clap.
Unfortunately, he failed to take the greatest opportunity to raise the level of racial discourse that this county has ever seen. Why did he not take the opportunity to defend Senator Obama's name *and* that of millions of Arabs and Muslims around the world and more importantly in the United States? Why did he not state simply and clearly, that it is wrong to *accuse* a person of being an Arab or a Muslim. In fact, it is no insult at all. Why didn't he disable the power of this adjectification?
