Milestones

I've been thinking a lot about milestones and lifetimes lived in the past few days.
  • 25 years since I attended a party to reunite the cast and crew of the Marlborough Boys' College and Marlborough Girls' College Combined Colleges drama production of 1983 - Arthur Miller's The Cruicible (I was GoodyPutnam - "There are wheels within wheels in this village, and fires within fires"). That evening (first Saturday of the Canterbury University August holidays of 1984) was the first time in two years since we met (and he tucked my arm under his and walked me on stage, saying "Make way for me and my wife" - although he does deny ever saying it!) that Mark and I did NOT argue. And the last. It's been quite a quarter century: Six furry children (Murphy, Anzac, Raglan, Sayla, Dylan, Tina), two hemispheres, two countries, 9,500 miles, 80 lbs, six degrees (most Mark's, but I made my contribution!), five passports, miles run and cycled without count, ups, downs, one Ironman and a promise of more. Here's to the next 25!
  • 10 years since we moved to the East Coast. A decade ago I was a couch potato and borderline obese. Now, not so much.
  • In the past year, I've started and ended a job, trained for and finished an Ironman (see rest of blog!) and frankly become a different person.
  • Eight weeks since I broke my elbow
  • Five weeks of unemployment (although it's been a rollercoaster, overall, it's not been so bad, really)
  • Three weeks since I seriously started the job hunt. I've learned that there are jobs out there, my network is extraordinary (though timing is everything) and I'm excited about a potential career change and tapping into my creativity. I've also learned that crazy ideas sometimes aren't so crazy. And that Attitude Is everything!
Off to prepare for Jonty's arrival! Yeah for old old friends from the other side of the world!
