First impressions

I'm here at Lake Placid, on the day before the race. Our trip up was uneventful, and included a ferry ride across Lake Champlain which was gorgeous and cut significant time off our trip. Nina and I were serenaded by our passenger Dave, who, with his wife Steph had travelled from Florida to support their friend Timra tomorrow. What people do to support their athletes is amazing and very touching.

At the town itself, I found the oval, where all the transition and finish line action happens, a little overwhelming. There was so much going on and so much that the athletes needed to remember and cope with.

At 4 we headed down to the TeamZ pre-race buffet. TeamZ is a local organization that is essentially a cross between a club and coaching. I am thinking of joining and based on what I saw tonight, I'll do it. The level of support for racers and their supporters is a amazing and the cameraderie amongst the team members extremely impressive.

One of the neat things that TZ did was a powerpoint of all 55 racers. And most of the people looked just like me - ordinary, fitter than average people.

Then we headed out to our cabin at the local KOA which turns out to be gorgeous - clean, spacious and overlooking the treetops. In fact, you wouldn't know anyone else is here.

Packed our bags for our very long and complicated day tomorrow and just sitting outside enjoying the sound of the river. Goodnight.
