When I was a little girl, I read a series called Milly Molly Mandy (Millicent Margaret Amanda) that were my Mum's when she was a little girl. MMM was an adventurous and resourceful little girl and I enjoyed the books very much.
The one that really sticks in my head was when MMM was given a small amount of money (a few pence at the most). She has so many things she could do with the money, and people were full of advice for her. being the smart little girl that she was, she managed to do them all (starting with buying a laying hen to lay eggs that she could sell and use the money to fund the next thing and so forth ...). I've always thought of that as inspiration when there are multiple things I want to do in a day but only so much time to achieve them.
This weekend was a Milly Molly Mandy weekend.
I had no training (having run 11 miles to work on Friday, I had no run on tap and decided to not go for a ride). On Saturday we lazed around fixing a few things in the garden and tidying for a barbecue, enjoying some new acquaintances and old friends, and on Sunday we worked on our front porch and even went to see a movie (Tell No One from France). We spent a couple of hours sitting in our "sanctuary" (the tiny patio on the side of the house that Mark's father had build for us, surrounded by walls made up of our vegetable garden, hydrangeas, hostas, ferns and tall salvia) reading and enjoying mint juleps. The dogs lay at our feet, exhausted by so much attention the night before and the unusual cool (i.e. 80s instead of 90s!) weather was heavenly.
And then, I realised that next weekend is another weekend with NO obligations! No races, no *have* to do runs or rides. if only the weather would cooperate again. It's such a luxury to be able to dream up things to do. Now, what would Milly Molly Mandy do?
