We have a training camp at Lake Placid this weekend. Three of us are leaving at o'dark-hundred on Friday morning and hope to get there about nine hours later. It's going to be a long day. Then on Saturday, we'll run a single loop of the marathon course and spend an hour or so practicing the big downhill into Keene. I'm familiar with that hill, having done it twice during our first bike tour about four years ago. On my first descent, I hit 50 miles an hour (80kph). It was one of the most fun things I've ever done, even though I was pedaling like mad and maintained 50 mph for only a nanosecond - enough for it to register on my cyclometer. Then on Sunday, we do the full course - twice around the 56 mile loop. It'll be a great chance to test out how difficult it's going to be to stay in Z2 and also to try and negative split - be disciplined enough to go slow on the first loop and speed up on the second loop.
Other than all that, there will be a lot of drinking and eating and laughing. Should be enormous fun. Back on Monday.
